An initiative started in 2010 by the Community Connections Department to assist mature newcomers to integrate and adapt to their new community.

Funding to this program has come from the New Horizons for Seniors Initiative and from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

During COVID-19, we are currently offering services online.

The 50+ Program offers the following services:

  • Group activities supporting personal wellbeing, fitness, knowledge transfer and cross-cultural understanding.
  • Craft groups and recreational activities.
  • Group volunteering projects: Cooking for the community, gardening, sewing and/or knitting for local charities, etc.
  • Friendly knitting circle, meets weekly to work in collective projects that are donated to local community agencies.

Any immigrant to Canada, newcomer or oldcomer is welcome to join the 50+ Group.

Community members, under 50 years of age, interested in the activities and project organized by the 50+ Group are welcome to participate as volunteers and skills facilitators.
