Gila

Gila came to Canada as an international student from Kenya in 2016. She is studying at Brock University in the Business Communication program. She is in her 4th year. She is currently doing her communications internship at the Folk Arts creating resources and amending policies in regards to social media, press releases while creating a monthly newsletter for the Centre. We are happy to have her until April 2020. Her major project will be to combine all our current and new resources into a Communications Handbook.

Her next education goal is to pursue law school with a focus on employment law. Since Gila has been in Canada, she has been actively working while studying full time.

Now that she has some Canadian experience under her belt, she has a better understanding of Canadian workplace culture. During her internship at the Folk Arts, she observes that:

The Folk Arts is like a family. Not just among staff but in the way staff treats clients. Clients keep coming back because I have witnessed the kind approach that is offered to clients. This has made a strong impression on me and I am happy that this Centre exists for newcomers in Niagara”.

It is our honour to serve newcomers through our new mission: “We celebrate and promote cultural, social, and economic inclusion and well-being of all immigrants and newcomers.”

Please help us in wishing Gila all the best in her future endevours.
